Columbus pest control

We are Ohio's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Columbus raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Columbus pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Columbus Raccoon Control Tip: How Should You Deal With Raccoons Active On Your Roof?
Raccoons are fairly common wild animals in the United States, and in many cases it is not unusual to see these animals active around domestic properties. They are also animals that are very skilled climbers, with their natural habitat being in the trees of rural areas, where they can climb to find a way to a location that is away from other animals, so in many ways it is no surprise to find these animals actually present on the roof. However, for those people who do find a raccoon that has found its way on to the roof, this can prove to be an indicator that you may have a raccoon problem, and that you should take some steps to address this.

Checking Your Attic For A Raccoon Infestation
The first step to identifying whether or not you have a raccoon infestation is to check your attic or roof cavity for any signs of their presence, with damaged insulation and feces being among the signs you can use to identify the animals. Before you go into the attic, you should always take the appropriate precautions, which are to wear long sleeved clothing, and also a breathing mask and goggles to protect your mouth and eyes. When looking around your attic, take care not to move into a situation that can lead you to cornering a raccoon, as this can leave an animal feeling threatened, and in some cases can cause them to respond aggressively.

Trapping And Removing Problem Raccoons
If you do see some signs that there are raccoons present inside the attic of your property, the next step is to place a cage trap in order to catch the raccoon. This should be placed in an area of the attic where you can see signs of the animal's activity, or in an area outside the property where the animal is regularly visiting when they go outside your home. Once trapped, the most common approach is to relocate the animal at least ten miles away from your property, but in some areas this may not be possible and you may need to kill the raccoon humanely.

Finding And Dealing With A Nest Of Baby Raccoons
Once you have trapped the adult raccoon, one of the things that you should also check at this stage is whether the animal has a nest of baby raccoons in your attic that you should deal with. At this stage you should return to the attic and take a close look at the animal's nest, and from there you should be able to see and hear whether there are any baby raccoons that you should remove at the same time. When it comes to removing the baby raccoons, you should be able to lift them into a box for transport by hand, as long as you are wearing thick gloves to protect yourself from any disease transmission.

How To Deal With A Raccoon Stuck On The Roof
In some cases, you may simply find that there is no sign that a raccoon on the roof has found its way into the attic at all, and that it is simply stuck on the roof or has ventured there to escape from danger below. In this case, you can still try to get rid of the animal by shooing it with a brush or long handled implement if you can reach the roof. Alternatively, if this is not possible, you may be able to use a snare pole to move the raccoon into a cage for relocation if you have a friend that can hold the cage for the animal.
